I've been in Seoul for three months at this point, and yes, I've yet to leave Korea... until now!
On Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:00 AM (Seoul time) I will be departing Korea and heading to Hanoi, Vietnam, for what will be my first taste of Southeast Asia and my first big trip outside of Korea!
To say this is exciting is an understatement. For years now I've been dreaming about indulging in the most delicious pho and exploring the stunning Vietnamese scenery, and the opportunity is now!
I'll only be in Vietnam for a total of six days, but they'll be quite jam-packed. The journey will start in Hanoi where I'll spend the first day and I'll explore the Old Quarter to its fullest. Hanoi used to be under the reign of French colonialism and is a site where you can find many colonial architecture as well as some interesting Vietnam War history.
I will then head out to visit something called "Perfume Pagoda," which is essentially a large Vietnamese Buddhist Temple surrounded by rolling hills. It looks absolutely stunning.
The highlight of my trip and what I'm most looking forward to, however, is my two-day trip to Halong Bay. For those of you who haven't heard of it, Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features an assortment or rocks and islands formed from limestone. I signed up for a cruise of the area, and I'll be taken around the bay to see some absolutely spectacular sights.
Finally, I'll hit up Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Village, known for its quaint old town, its delicious food and its pristine beaches, A relaxing day in Hoi An will certainly be the perfect way to end an exciting, adventurous and hectic week, because hey!, I land back in Seoul a mere seven hours before needing to teach again!
Admittedly, I am a little nervous about embarking on a solo trip in a country where I don't speak a word of the local language, however it'll be a special experience and isn't that the charm about travelling after all! I will be staying in backpacker hostels all the way through (conveniently armed with nothing but a backpack for the entire trip) and am positive I'll be able to meet some amazing fellow travellers to further complement the experience!
Follow my journey through Vietnam on Facebook or on Snapchat (daniannarone), and be sure to check in here when it's all done for an extensive post about it!
