After spending time in Toulouse, Nice and Monaco, Genova was a natural choice for a stopover before heading out to Cinque Terre.
We only had a few hours in Genova, but we saw the city well and the old town is really impressive.
Next stop, Cinque Terre.
Now, on our way to Cinque Terre we stopped by this very cute small town called Pignone for a cappuccino and some foccaccia, and it was probably one of the best cappuccinos and foccaccias I had in my life. The town was so cute too!
Next stop, for real, Cinque Terre.
Now, for those of you who don’t know what Cinque Terre is, essentially it’s five small villages on the Amalfi Coast in Italy: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. These villages are all small, cute, extremely touristy and picturesque, perhaps some of the most beautiful villages I have ever seen.
We did a grand tour, stopped in every village, went swimming, got lots of gelato and ate a delicious seafood meal. The first day spent there was on the verge of perfect.
Here are some food pictures followed by some of the villages.
So here are village pics:
Monterosso:
Riomaggiore:
Vernazza, where we went swimming:
Corniglia:
And, the most picturesque village you’ve probably all seen photos of, Manarola:
Yeah, Cinque Terre was beautiful, unfortunately our experience there was also slightly tainted.
At the end of the first day we had been unsuccessful at finding any accommodation for the night, so we said we’d sleep in the car and head out first thing the following morning and head to Slovenia, to Samo’s house, however Peter had lost the car keys. In the car we had all our clothes and everything, so we were unable to change nor do anything, and seeing as there were no hotel availabilities, we had to sleep on the cold floor of the train station…
The next day we searched frantically every single village for the keys, and still we didn’t find them, so we called Peter’s parents who sent over the spare keys with someone who was driving by Genova and took a detour for us. The keys arrived at 5Am the following morning, so we literally slept on the cold floor for two nights without changing or washing or anything, it was disgusting, before finally heading to Slovenia, where I am now.
Slovenia is beautiful by the way, and I’ll blog about that on my next post.
It has been a busy few weeks.
